Where to find things on this site
This is the quickest route through dlsc.ca: every main section is listed below with a note on what it holds. All pages here link to each other, so you can read in any order.
Start with the technology
If you only read one page, make it how it works, which follows heat from the roof collectors to the ground and back to the houses. The detail pages go one level deeper: solar collection covers the 800 collectors on the garages, borehole storage explains the 144-hole underground store, and the Energy Centre page describes the building that tied the system together.
Two shorter pages cover the pipes: district heating and the air handler inside each house. The solar hot water page covers the separate domestic hot water side.
Results and records
Performance results gives the monitored solar share by year, from the early seasons through 97 percent in 2012 and 100 percent in 2015-16. The publications page describes the reports and conference papers behind those figures. The retired live data service is described on the dashboard page, and the awards page lists the recognition the project received between 2005 and 2007.
People and places
The overview introduces the community, the homes page describes the 52 houses, and partners names the organisations that took part. For a document-style summary of the project's launch materials, see the backgrounder page.
Pictures, video and news
The photo archive links to year-by-year construction timelines written from surviving captions. The animation page explains what the old explanatory video showed. Original digests of coverage from 2005 to 2010 sit in the news archive.
Need something we do not have?
This site does not link out to other websites. Technical papers and current facts have to come from the project partners, and the contact page says which one to ask.
Quick answers
Where can I find Drake Landing performance data?
The performance results page summarises verified monitoring figures by year. The publications page explains which reports they came from.
Where do I start if I know nothing about the project?
Read the overview, then how it works. Those two pages explain what was built, why, and how the heat travelled.
