The Nova Scotia company behind a Drake Landing control unit

Nu-air Ventilation Systems Inc., based near Windsor, Nova Scotia, made the Enerboss, a compact unit that controls heating, cooling and ventilation and was in use at Drake Landing in 2005. The company's own growth that year is a useful look at who supplied the homes.

What the Enerboss does

Drake Landing homes were built to the R-2000 standard, so they were tightly sealed and needed controlled fresh air. The Enerboss combined those jobs in one compact box: it handled heating, cooling and ventilation. It sat alongside the low-temperature air handler that moved solar-warmed loop water into each home's ducts. This site has no verified detail on how many homes carried the unit.

A supplier in growth mode

Nu-air designs and makes residential and commercial ventilation and heating equipment, with an emphasis on saving energy. It began in 1992 building small heat-recovery systems for houses, and still produced them at up to 100 a day. In August 2005 it moved into a new $1.5-million plant in the West Hants Industrial Park. Revenues had doubled in a year, and circuit design was now done in-house, which needed more space.

Jobs and floor space

The firm employed about 50 people and planned to add up to 100 within a year, with a four-year goal of 250 new staff, mostly in production plus some engineers, technologists and sales roles. A further 40,000 square feet of production space was planned for spring, and the old 8,000-square-foot building in Brooklyn, Hants County, was to become a research and development lab. Its products shipped across Canada and to Europe, the United Kingdom and Asia.

Why it matters today

The Drake Landing connection shows a project assembled from suppliers across the country. The homes were later switched to natural gas furnaces as the community was wound down from 2024, so the fate of individual components is not documented here.
